New API Support: USPS Advanced supports the API changes that come into effect on May 14, including dimensional weights, First-class mail types and the new international shipping methods.

Continuing our tradition of developing the most highly configurable shipping modules for Miva Merchant, we are proud to announce the release of USPS Advanced. This module contains the same kind of options available in our FedEx Advanced and UPS Custom Integration. It offers USPS rate calculations for both domestic and international addresses.

Origination zip codes are configurable for individual products, categories and groups, making this module perfect for drop-shippers
Insurance can be offered for each shipping method, either as optional or required
The packaging weight and number of products per package can be specified
Handling charges, as a dollar amount or percentage, can be added per order, per item or per package and are also configurable at the product and category level.
Each or any method can be flagged for free shipping or can be controlled to do so if certain order thresholds are met

Besides the above global options, at the product, category and group level, you can also use the following features:

Ship in separate package
Configure the number of items to fit in a box, splitting according to weight or cost, if desired
Offer free or discounted shipping
Charge additional handling
Add a packaging weight
Force certain items to ship together

One of the requirements for accessing the United States Postal Service web tools is obtaining a user ID from them. This is done very simply by completing this form. ( https://secure.shippingapis.com/registration/ )

Unfortunately the user ID you will be sent is not ready for use yet so you will need to contact USPS again and have your user ID upgraded for use with their production server. As noted in the email you receive from them, you can do this by email or by phone. Without having your user ID upgraded, it will not work with your module.

If you have a user ID from using the inbuilt Miva module, you can use that. You do not need to obtain a new user ID.
