I just installed Inventory Manager and my inventory levels do not appear to be working. What am I doing wrong?
A frequent configuration in this module error is assigning inventory levels incorrectly. Page 8 of the module's documentation has a description of how to enter these correctly. Many people often think "my product is in stock, so I will enter the in stock level ID" or "my product is out of stock, so I will enter the out of stock level ID". You need enter a set of values for all of the notification levels you want the product/attribute to be ready for in the form of a comma separated list. Typically, this will just be 1,2,3,4.
Further, if you are assigning most of your products the same levels, you can set 'System Extension Configuration > Inventory Manager > Options > Default notifications levels' to 1,2,3,4 (or whatever you want your levels to be). This will apply these default levels to all new products/attributes you enable tracking for. Note that it does not overwrite any of your existing settings.
Without assigning multiple levels, the module will only alert customers in your store with messages tied to that inventory level and no other inventory levels. In short, typical module usage will have inventory levels of 1,2,3,4 for each of your products/attributes being tracked.
