Unable to get Attributes to Collect the Customer's Data

I can't get the attributes to collect the customer's data. What might the problem be?

The problem may be that you are using an attribute template for the gift certificate product's attributes. The attributes have to be directly assigned to the product. What you can do is create an attribute template for the gift certificate fields, then assign the attribute template but rather than directly assigning it, copy it. This will give the gift certificate product all of the attributes of the template but NOT have it directly assigned to the template.
