I have the module configured but the search does not appear to be returning the correct search results. Any ideas?
(2004/07/22)There are several possible reasons for this:
1. Before the module will find any products you need to rebuild the database. Normally, this will occur as products are added/modified. However, when you first install it, it has to be done manually. Go to the module's admin interface and click on the "rebuild data" tab. Then select the "attributes" and "additional fields manager" options (the latter option will show up only if you have the Additional Fields manager installed) and click on the "rebuild data" button. A new window will pop-up showing the progress. After this is completed, the search should work.
2. Make sure that you do not have an option configured (perhaps a default option which you are not displaying to the customer) that is restricting your results. For example, if you have the "case sensitive" option configured but hidden, you could very easily be expecting results when the case of the search term is incorrect. Similarly, you might think that the product description is being searched by default when it is not actually configured to do so.
3. Keep in mind that the module will NOT distinguish between whole words and partial words when determining the search results. If you search for "red" the module will find and display products which contain "bred", "red", "Predilection", etc.
4. Try packing the module's databases. Go to the "Rebuild Data" tab and check off the "Pack Databases" box at the bottom and then click on "update". In some instances packing the databases helps.
